Joyanta Basumatary: Born on 1 March, 1976, Basumatary is an Indian politician and a member of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) from Assam. Earlier he was the MLA from Sidli constituency of Assam legislative assembly since 2021. Presently he was declared elected as the MP from the Kokrajhar (ST reserved) Lok Sabha seat of Assam.

Rakibul Hussain: He was born to Late Alhaz Nurul Hussain on 7 August, 1964. He is a post- Graduate in Political Science from Aligarh Muslim University, India. As  a Politician , he represented the Samaguri constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly for the Indian National Congress Party since 2001. He served as Minister of State for Home(Jail and Home Guards), Border Areas Development Passport, in the Tarun Gogoi Government from 2002-2006, from 2004- to 2006 as minister of state for Home, Political, Passport, HAJ, BAD, Information Technology, Government of Assam., from 2006 to 2011 he served as the Minister of Forest and Environment,Tourism, Information and Public Relations, from 2011 to 2016 served as the Minister of Environment and Forest and Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of Assam in the Tarun Gogoi Ministry.He also served as the General Secretary of Assam Olympic association, President of All India Carrom Federation in 2015.

Mr Hussain is elected as the MP from Dhubri constituency, Assam in the last Parliamentary Election, 2024, defeating his nearest rival candidate , AIUDF Chief Moulana Badaruddin Ajmal , who was the MP from Dhubri Lok Sabha seat for earlier three consecutive terms.

Phani Bhusan Choudhury (born 1 May, 1952): Choudhury is an Indian Politician from Assam, who has a distinct record of representing Bongaigaon constituency in the Assam legislative assembly for the 8th consecutive time since 1985. He was the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Pension and Public Grievances, Govt. of  Assam from 2018 to 2021 in the Sarbananda Sonowal Ministry. He was the member of the Housing Committee, member of Public Undertakings Committee of Assam Legislative Assembly , Minister from 1996 to 2001, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee during 2009-2011 and leader of AGP Legislative Party from 2011 to 2016. He is a leader of the  Asom Gana Parishad, a regional Political party of Assam. Now he is elected as the MP from Barpeta constituency , Assam under the banner of  AGP, an ally of the NDA.

DILIP SAIKIA (born on 1 September, 1973): Mr Saikia is an Indian Politician , who is currently elected as the MP from Darang- Udalguri constituency, Assam in the 2024 Lok Sabha election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier he represented the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha Constituency after being elected in the  2019 General Election . He was the former state secretary and state organising secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthy Parishad, Assam Pradesh and is currently the National Secretary of BJP.

BIJULI KALITA MEDHI (Age 45):  Mrs Medhi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and is currently elected as the Member of Parliament from the Guwahati constituency, defeating her nearest rival Meera Borthakur of Indian National Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

AMARSING TISSO is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Assam. Currently hr is elected as the Member of Parliament from the Diphu (ST reserved) Lok Sabha seat, defeating his nearest independent candidate J. I. Kathar in the last parliamentary election.

KRIPANATH MALLAH (born 15 October, 1973):

    Mr Mallah is an Indian Politician serving as the Member of Parliament in the 18th  Lok Sabha from Karimganj constituency (reserved for SC quota) of Assam. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party, who had been elected in the Assam Legislative assembly elections in  2011 and  2016 from Ratabari constituency.  Mallah started his political journey by participating in Gaon Panchayat i.e. becoming the Gaon Panchayat President, then on climbing to the position of MLA, then on to the Member of Parliament.

PARIMAL SUKLABAIDYA (born 20 January 1958) is  an Indian Politician from the state of Assam. He is the member of Assam Legislative Assembly constituency representing the Dholai Constituency for the fourth time. Presently he is elected to the 18th  LokSabha  from the Silchar constituency as the BJP candidate, defeating his nearest opponent Surya Kanta Sarkar (INC).

PRODYUT BORDOLOI (born on 28 March 1958 in Margherita, Assam): Mr Bordoloi is an Indian Politician , who was the President of the Assam Unit of National Students’ Union of India. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Margherita constituency in a by poll in 1998 and was re-elected in 2001,2006 and 2011. He was a Minister of State in the furst Tarun Gogoi Ministry during 2001-06, holding portfolios of Industries and Commerce, Power, Public Enterprise etc.. He also served as Cabinet Minister in the Second and Third Tarun Gogoi Ministry from 2006-11 and 2011-15. He was also the appointed senior government spokesperson and advisor to the Chief Minister.  In 2019 and 2024 he was elected to the 17th  and 18th  Lok Sabha from Nowgong constituency of Assam.

KAMAKHYA PRASAD TASA (born 1 June 1975) is an Indian Politician from Assam, who is currently  Member of Parliament elected to the 18th  Lok Sabha . Mr Tasa is seen as a formidable leader of the BJP with a strong and substantial following base credited with BJP’s growing influence in various caste groups who have settled in Assam. Earlier he was the MP from Jorhat Lok Sabha during 2014-2019 and State Vice President in Assam plus the National Secretary of BJP since 2023. His role as a party leader is pivotal for the success of BJP in the North Eastern region of India. Before elected to the Lok Sabha (18th ) , he served as the Rajya Sabha MP representing Assam. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas during 2014-17 and serving as the member of Consultative  Committee , Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and Committee on Private Members Bills and Resolutions during 2014-19.He also served as the member of Standing Committee on Rural Development (2017) and became  a member of the National Jute Board.

  Tasa’s political career as a leader  started  at the age of 16, when he became the Secretary of the Assam Tea Tribs Students’  Association, Jorhat branch in 1991. He served as the Secretary of ATTSA till 1995., elevated to the position of General Secretary of the central body of the ATTSA during 1995-2003..Besides these, he also served as the member of J B College Jorhat Political Science Study Circle (1993-94), , Court member of Dibrugarh University (1997-98), Executive member of the Chah Janagusthi Kala Sanskriti Council under Sankardev Kalakshetra Samaj.

RANJIT DUTTA (born on 24 January, 1957in Hatibondha, Biswanath, assam) : Mr dutta is an Indian Politician , who was the BJP candidate for the Behali constituency in the 2001 Assam legislative assembly election. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, defeating his nearest opponent, a Congress candidate.  He was inducted into the Sonowal Ministry and served as Minister for Handloom, Welfare of Minorities, Textiles & Sericulture. In 2021 Assam legislative assembly election, he was elected,but not inducted into the Sarma Ministry. Presently he is elected from the 11 No. Sonitpur Parliamentary constituency of Assam, defeating his nearest opponent Premlal Ganju , an INC candidate.

PRADAN BORUAH  (born on 30 April 1965): Mr Boruah is an Indian Politician, who was earlier  the Member of Assam Legislative Assembly from Dhemaji Constiituency (No. 113). He is the MP from Lakhimpur Parliamentary constituency since November, 2016. He won the by-election in November, 2016 after the sitting MP Sarbananda  Sonowal resigned from the seat in  May, 2016 after becoming the Chief Minister of Assam.

SARBANANDA SONOWAL (born 31 October 1962) is  an India Politician from Assam, who is serving as the Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Cabinet Minister of AYUSH, Government of India and Member of Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2021 and  as a member of  the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs. Currently,  he is elected from the Dibrugarh Parliamentary constituency, defeating his nearest opponent Mr. Lurinjyoti Gogoi of Asom Jatiya Parishad. And get the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in the Modi Ministry 3.0. He was the 14th  Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021 representing Majuli (ST) LAC and Sonowal earlier served as the MLA from Moran LAC during 2001-04, as MP from Dibrugarh constituency (14th Lok Sabha) during 2004-09 and from Lakhimpur constituency during 2014-16. He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.

Mr Sonowal served as the Assam State Unit President of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2012 to 2-16, served as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs (2014-16) and the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, appointed member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home affairs (2005) , appointed member of Consultative Committee,  Ministry of Commerce & Industry (2006), appointed member of National Executive of BJP (2011), appointed state Spokesperson and General Secretary of Assam BJP.

Mr Sonowal served as the President of All Assam Students’ Union during 1992-99 andChairman of the North East Students’ Organisation durin 1996-2000. He plated the key role in removing the illegal IM(DT) Act in 2005..  

GAURAV GOGOI (born 4 September 1982) is and Indian Politician and Social worker of Indian National Congress from Assam who is serving as the Deputy leader of the INC in the 17th Lok Sabha. Earlier he represented twice the  Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency during 2014-19 and again during 2019-24. This time he represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, defeating his opponent BJP candidate Mr Tapan Gogoi . He is the son of late Tarun Gogoi, the former Congress Chief Minister of Assam.   

INTRODUCTION:

The General Election of India, 2024, held from 19th  April to 1st June, 2024 in seven phases to elect all 543 members of the 18th  Lok Sabha. The legislative assembly elections in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim ewre held simultaneously with the general election, along with the by- elections  for 25 constituencies in 12 legislative assemblies. This is the largest ever election in history, surpassing the previous elections and lasts for 44 days. More than 968 million people (70% of the total population) were eligible to vote. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 4 June, 2024 , where the BJP led NDA secured 293 of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha.. The BJP lost its majority after the opposition secured more seats than initially projected. The opposition coalition , Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) secured 234 seats with the INC winning the most with 99 seats.

LOK SABHA ELECTION, 2024 AND ASSAM:

In Assam, there are 14  Lok Sabha seats namely BARPETA, DIBRUGARH, DIPHU, DARANG-UDALGURI, DHUBRI, GUWAHATI,JORHAT,KOKRAJHAR, KAZIRANGA , KARIMGANJ, LAKHIMPUR, NOWGONG, SILCHAR and SONITPUR. Among these 14 Lok Sabha seats, 11 seats are un-reserved , two are reserved for ST and one is reserved for SC candidates. This was the first election in Assam after delimitation of the constituencies in the last year. All 14 constituencies in the state of Assam that went to polls in the initial three phases of the Lok Sabha elections, 2024, posted a new record voter turnout of 81.56%. Over 2.45 crore people have cast their votes as per state’s electoral roll with almost equal number of male and female voters.

The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) led NDA swept the Lok Sabha elections in Assam bagging 11 of the 14 seats while INC bagged three. The BJP retained 9 seats, the same as in the 2019  polls, while its allies the AGP emerged victorious in Barpeta and the UPPL made a debut in the Kokrajhar (ST) seat.
